My Running Story: Keyes Hudson
How/when did you start running?
I’ve been running as long as I can remember, although it was in other sports. When I moved to Austin in the 80’s (my 40’s) I ran my first 5K and was hooked thereafter. Austin had 5K’s almost every weekend, and the Capitol 10K every spring. In the 90’s I lived in places that had few or no running events. When I moved to the San Antonio area in 2001 there were a few running events, and it seemed to me that "running-for-all" was just beginning to catch on nationwide. The Andiamo series is one of the best - great for everyone!
What inspires you to be active?
“Stayin’ Alive” At age 77 one day on the sofa takes several days to recover fitness and health levels.
What has running/walking taught you about perseverance/commitment/goal setting?
Goal setting and exercise metrics keep me on course for a healthy lifestyle. Perseverance is just not giving up.
How has the Andiamo challenges motivated/inspired/supported you during these past months?
The Andiamo challenges keep me connected and looking forward to the time when we can run together again - seeing old friends and making new ones at every event. They also keep me focused on why I run/walk every day - so that I can walk a pilgrimage every year. In 2016 I was called to the Camino de Santiago, a 500 mile walk across Spain. At the end I made a vow to walk a pilgrimage every year as long as I can still walk. (2020 doesn’t count due to COVID, but it’s no excuse to stop.) So far I have walked five, and hope for many more ahead.
Keyes has been running our races (and winning 1st place on his group age in almost all of them) for the past few years! He has also completed most of the Andiamo Mile Challenges since last March. Thanks for being part of the Andiamo familia, Keyes! You are such an inspiration and we are so grateful to have you running with us! #Keepruning #keepgoing #yocorroeveryday
