"What does your maintenance program look like?"

Article by Trainer Travis Personal Training

In many fitness conversations, I hear this magic ratio a lot -- 80% nutrition, 20% training, or somewhere around there at least. 80% of the ratio is attributed to eating clean foods while 20% focuses on activities that get us closer to our goal whether it’s bodybuilding, running, weightlifting, CrossFit, soccer or whatever. In my opinion, the ratio should look more like this: 55% nutrition, 25% maintenance, 20% training.

What I’m trying to show you is that we often overlook important maintenance activities like cross-training which includes strength training, drills, massage therapy, icing, foam rolling, stretching, and other forms of maintenance that keep us training strong. You can’t continually push yourself to the limit by doing one physical activity and not expect to develop some sort of imbalance. If that’s all you do, you’ll most likely find yourself headed down the road of injury which causes a setback in training or worse. And if you can’t train, who cares about a performance based diet.

If you’re interested in finding out how you can work on this other 25% of training, shoot me a message. At the very least I can provide you a consultation and go over exercises and activities that will help bolster your performance, bring down injury rates or even help you fix the injuries that you already have. Email me or Facebook message me for more information and to schedule your appointment now!
